Danish Animation Studio Comes Stateside

Danish animation studio A. Film has established its new permanent U.S. presence in Southern California.

The studio handles all types of animation, CG and hand-drawn, from the highest possible standards to the "just above low budget" TV series, said Hans Perk, President and CEO of A. Film L.A. and co-founder of A. Film A/S Denmark.

Since its beginning in 1988, A. Film has produced more than 500 commercials, animated shorts including the Academy Award nominee WHEN LIFE DEPARTS, animation on the Internet, for PC games and theme park dark rides. They have been a subcontractor on 30 feature films and are currently in production on their own tenth feature.

Current release JOURNEY TO SATURN just had the largest opening weekend for any animated feature in Denmark and the fourth-largest opening for any Danish movie since 2000.

Perk and A. Film Denmark's co-founder Jorgen Lerdam will be attending Danish Film Expo in Hollywood, California starting November 2, 2008.

A Film A/S is half owned by its five co-founders and half owned by the Egmont Group of Denmark, under its Nordisk Film wing. It has subsidiaries in Estonia, Latvia and Germany. Nordisk Film was founded in 1906.
